Dr. Neville Alexander of South Africa is the recipient of the 2008 Linguapax Prize:

  22.02.2008

The South African linguist Neville Alexander will receive the Linguapax Award today in Barcelona, on the occasion of the Mother Language Day. The ceremony is framed in the Intercultural Week organised by the Ramon Llull University. Alexander, who coordinates the Project for the Study of Alternative Education in South Africa has devoted more than twenty years of his professional life to defend and preserve multilingualism in the post-apartheid South Africa and has become one of the major advocates of linguistic diversity.

Thanks for spreading the news. I posted a little more info and some links on Beyond Niamey.

BTW, I will be adding feeds your blogs there soon.

Thanks for the ‘heads up’ on it Don. Appreciate the links too. I need to do some work on this blog and really get it up and running properly. I did some work on the structure recently but now need to add more content. The other blogs are doing well with Sociolingo’s Africa getting between 1,000 and 1500 hits a day, the Mali one stays steady at around 350 a day. This one still has to find its place, I think there are around 20-30 regular readers. Now we’re settled back in the UK for a while my broadband supplier will give me a website, so I think I will develop that as a home for more permanent links from the blogs.
